Gareth Edwards to Become Head in January

We are delighted to announce that Gareth Edwards will become Head of Heywood Prep from January 2027.

Gareth has been an integral part of the Heywood community for seven years, first joining as a member of the teaching team before becoming Deputy Head. Throughout his time at Heywood, he has championed an approach to education that encourages children to explore their passions, embrace new opportunities and never feel they have to choose between the things they love.

From Maths to Drama, Science to storytelling, Gareth believes that curiosity and creativity should sit at the heart of a child’s education. His own journey, from psychology to music and drama, teaching and school leadership, reflects the very ethos he promotes that there are many paths to success and that every experience helps shape who we become.

So far at Heywood, Gareth has played a key role in developing many aspects of school life, from fostering a love of reading and enriching the curriculum through imaginative learning opportunities, to supporting the pastoral care and wellbeing of every pupil. He has worked closely with staff, pupils and families to help create the nurturing, ambitious and inclusive environment that makes Heywood such a special place.

Gareth says, “I have always believed that children should be encouraged to explore widely, discover what inspires them and develop the confidence to pursue their interests. That is something I have always valued about Heywood, and I am incredibly excited to continue working with our wonderful pupils, families and staff as we look ahead to the next chapter.”

We are incredibly proud of everything Gareth has contributed to Heywood and look forward to seeing him lead the school to continued success.
