Interfaith Week
This week at Heywood, one of our core values—respect—was brought to life during ‘Interfaith Week’. It was a wonderful opportunity for children across the school to learn about different faiths, traditions, and ways of life. More importantly, it helped our pupils understand the importance of respecting and celebrating the beliefs of others, a key part of the Heywood Habits we strive to follow.
The week began with a special assembly focused on how to show respect for other people’s faiths. Children reflected on what respect looks like in action—listening carefully, asking thoughtful questions, and showing kindness even when others believe or live differently from us.
Throughout the week, we welcomed a variety of special visitors. Iris Segal from the Progressive Reformed Synagogue in Bristol shared with us the significance of Jewish traditions and even brought along some religious items to show the children. Dr Anderson, an expert in Islamic studies, spoke to the children about the core values of Islam, helping them understand Islamic customs and beliefs. In addition, we were fortunate to visit local churches, giving pupils a chance to explore places of worship and learn about their unique features and ceremonies.

In school, the children engaged in a range of creative activities inspired by the week. From religious-style artwork reflecting symbols and stories from different faiths, to trying a variety of cultural foods at lunchtimes, the children fully immersed themselves in the spirit of understanding and appreciation.
Interfaith Week has been a powerful reminder that while we may hold different beliefs, respect for one another helps build a stronger, kinder school community.
