Year 6 have a blast at Mill on the Brue
Our Year 6 children enjoyed a well-earned residential trip to Mill on the Brue last week. The residential activity centre in Bruton is perfect for allowing children to take risks and stretch themselves as well as making lasting memories with their friends at the end of their time in Heywood Prep.
From raft-building to axe-throwing, assault courses to climbing walls, the children experienced a diverse range of pursuits led by fun and knowledgeable instructors and supported by their teachers from school. Enjoyment was fuelled with fresh locally-sourced food which all the children agreed was extremely good quality. In the evenings, the teachers and instructors worked together to provide games, a talent-show, songs around the campfire, and story-time and hot chocolate.
For accommodation, the Heywood Prep children had exclusive use of Rivermead, a new addition to Mill on the Brue. The specially-converted house is small enough for children to feel cosy but big enough to allow some independence. The children slept in small comfortable rooms of two to six children per room and were able to enjoy some private outside space for playing safely after meals.
This fantastic week away was the perfect end to Year 6 and will be memorable for the children for many years to come.
