Year 5

Welcome to the Year 5 Page!  In our class we have Freddie, Archie, Zach, Arni, Riley, Harriet, Natasha, Amelia, Jade, Ioanna, Alice and Kathryn.

Dear Parents

Happy New Year!

I am writing to inform you about some of the work your child will be doing in Year 5 this term.

In English the main focus of our reading and writing will be Stories and Poems from a variety of genres including Science Fiction, Traditional Tales, Non-Chronological Writing and Explanatory Texts.  We will also continue with our weekly spelling lists and work in grammar.

In Maths we will be extending and introducing work on various topics inlcuding Factors, Place Value, Multiplication and Division, Fractions, Decimals, Percentages and Data Handling.

In History we will continue our study of The Victorians.

In Geography we will be studying The Rainforest and we hope to organise a trip to the Living Rainforest near Newbury to support our work on this.

In Science the children will begin the term by completing work on Materials (particularly plastics, littler and recycling) and will then be investigating Separating Materials, Forces, as well as E Types of Rocks.

I will look forward to meeting you at the Parents' Evening on Tuesday, 21st February, when we will be able to discuss your child's individual targets.

My Favourite Hobby

During the week commencing 10th October the children were given the task of preparing a short talk entitled 'My Favourite Hobby'. Many of them brought in a wide range of props to support their talks. They really enjoyed the task and I was very pleased with their efforts. Their choices were as follows:
