Year 5 Set Sail
When Year 5 Heywood pupils received an invitation to spend a day sailing the historic tall ship ‘Jolie Brise’, they eagerly accepted the offer. For over 45 years, The Jolie Brise has been sailed and maintained by Dauntsey’s school, and we are incredibly grateful to Dauntsey’s for offering this wonderful opportunity to the children.
Under the guidance of Toby Marris, the Head of Sailing at Dauntsey’s, the children set sail for an unforgettable adventure on the Solent. Excitement filled the air as they stepped aboard the ‘Jolie Brise’ and enthusiastically awaited their adventure.
The day was filled with incredible moments as the children had the chance to take control of the tiller, hoist the sails and steer the boat giving them a deeper understanding of sailing. One of the highlights of the day was when the children ventured out onto the bowsprit. Amongst the excitement, a well-deserved picnic awaited the children which they enjoyed whilst taking in the glamorous Solent views.
Throughout the day, the pupils not only learned practical skills but also developed an appreciation of the sea and sailing.
Year 5 would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dauntsey’s school for this unforgettable opportunity, and look forward to sharing more adventures in the future.
