Adventures and expeditions are part and parcel of life at Heywood Prep. As well as providing huge amounts of fun, they help children develop characteristics of resilience, independence and self-confidence.
There are the regular educational visits which are built into the curriculum, giving opportunities for hands-on learning and opening up the world to curious eyes. Recent trips include studying Greek Art at the Holburne Museum, learning about the Romans at the Corinium Museum, walking in the footsteps of Kings and Queens at Berkeley Castle, exploring nature at Westonbirt Arboretum and having our curiosity satisfied at We The Curious in Bristol.
Towards the end of their time at Heywood Prep our Years 6s take part in a week’s residential course at Skern Lodge on the North Devon coast. This is a much anticipated adventure and pupils enjoy a week full of exploration, challenge and teamwork.
Year 6s also take part in the Wishford Weekend. This is an annual gathering of all Year 6 students from our sister Prep Schools in the Wishford Group. Pupils spend the weekend camping in the grounds of Hatherop Castle Prep and taking part in all manner of activities.
The ski trip is a highlight of the year and this is open to pupils from Year 2 and up. Parents accompany younger children, whilst older children are able to attend on their own.
