Welcome to Heywood Nursery

Housed in Corsham’s charming and historic old Fire Station, Heywood Nursery is a happy, nurturing place where children take their very first steps into a world of discovery, friendship and learning.

Welcoming children from the September after they turn two, we offer a warm, welcoming and inspiring learning environment, with small class sizes and a dedicated class teacher for every child. Led by our hugely experienced Mrs Alex Jones and her enthusiastic team of nursery teachers and assistants, we provide a gentle and supportive transition from home into the world of education, ensuring every child feels happy, secure and valued.

We understand how important these early years are in shaping a child’s future attitude towards learning and school. Our aim is to create a warm, welcoming environment, an extension of home, where children are encouraged to develop their curiosity, creativity and confidence, and grow into happy, independent and thoughtful individuals.

A Happy Place to Learn, Play and Grow

In our cheerful and stimulating environment, our youngest children in Acorns quickly settle in, make friends and grow in confidence as they begin to explore the world beyond home and family.

There is so much to discover, with new experiences to enjoy, skills to develop, friendships to make and little challenges to overcome. With an emphasis on happiness, fun and play, learning happens naturally throughout the day. Even our youngest children begin to explore the wonders of words and the magic of maths, alongside storytelling, creativity, music and physical activities.

Behind the fun, our carefully planned Early Years curriculum supports every aspect of children’s development, helping them build the foundations and confidence they need for the next stage of their education.

More Than Just Childcare

At Heywood Nursery, we offer so much more than childcare. Our thoughtfully developed Early Years curriculum, designed to equip children with the skills, knowledge and confidence they need as they embark on their school journey.

Children enjoy a wonderful variety of experiences, including specialist teaching in PE, Music, Forest School and Modern Foreign Languages. Led by specialist teachers from the main school, these opportunities introduce new interests.

Learning extends beyond the classroom, too. Our dedicated Nursery playground and delightful walled garden provide wonderful spaces for outdoor exploration, imaginative play and games, while weekly walks in the beautiful landscaped grounds of Corsham Court offer even more opportunities to discover the natural world.

Growing in Confidence and Independence

As children grow and move into our Pre-School classes, Oak, Beech and Ash, we build on these early foundations, encouraging greater independence, developing early-learning skills and preparing them for the next exciting step into Reception.

Through fun, engaging activities, children begin to develop problem-solving skills and explore early phonics, letters and sounds. Their growing confidence opens up the wonderful world of books, while our carefully planned curriculum helps them develop the skills and enthusiasm they need for a happy and successful start to school.

We take great care to make the transition into Reception at Heywood as seamless as possible, so that every child moves forward feeling confident, capable and excited about what lies ahead.
