Alex Jones, Head Heywood Nursery and Oak Class Leader

Montessori Nursery Teaching Diploma, NAMCW

Alex Jones is the Head of Heywood Nursery and teaches one group of older nursery children. After training as a nanny, she followed this up with a Montessori Nursery Teaching Diploma and ran the nursery at Stonar School for 10 years before moving to Heywood Nursery. Away from work she spends as much time as possible in the great outdoors, walking and gardening or on the back of a motorbike!

She says: I enjoy the friendly and caring atmosphere at Heywood Nursery and it gives me great satisfaction to watch the children thrive and flourish in such a beautiful environment and know that I have played a part in that process. Our busy nursery lays the foundations for the children’s transition to Heywood Prep.

Katie Cowan, Beech Class Leader

NNEB and NVQ Level 4

Before joining Heywood Prep in 2001, Heywood Nursery’s Miss Katie worked in the after-school club at St Margaret’s school and then in a day nursery with 2-3 year-olds. Calm and gentle, she is adept at preparing the children for the step up to big school.

She says: I wanted to work in a nursery setting which is a part of a school environment.  I enjoy seeing how much the children develop during their time with us.

Fleur Knowles, Ash Class Leader

NNEB and NVQ Level 3

After studying and gaining her Nursery Nurse qualification at Swindon College, Mrs Fleur, as she is known to the children, joined Heywood Nursery in 1991. Eight years later she took a career break to have two children of her own, subsequently returning to Heywood Nursery at the school’s request. When she is away from Heywood, she loves to spend time with her family and is a passionate baker and a keen swimmer.

She says: I chose Heywood Nursery simply because it was by far the best Nursery in the local area.

Carly Halliwell, Acorn Class Leader

Childhood Studies Degree

It was after having her first child that Carly Halliwell realised she wanted to pursue a career in childcare and trained as a registered child-minder, caring for children between the ages of 6 months to 11 years. In 2013 in order to take her career further, she decided to return to studying where she achieved her Early Years Foundation Degree. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, enjoying days out and trips to the theatre.

She says: As a parent of two children who attended Heywood Nursery, I was aware of the friendly atmosphere and enthusiastic teachers and children and knew it was somewhere I would love to become a part of. When the position became available, I decided to apply and since then have loved watching the children thrive and develop into caring individuals.
