“Lions and tigers and bears, oh my!”

Reception have worked so hard in their first year at school, as a reward they went on their final trip of the year to Cotswold Wildlife Park and Gardens, to celebrate their commitment and achievements throughout the year.

The weather wasn’t quite as we had hoped for but our resilient Reception children did not let this dampen their spirits! First stop were the giant tortoises: “they look a bit like some of the dinosaurs we have been learning about!”It was then time to spot the rhinos, which also reminded the children of the prehistoric creatures they have been busy exploring this term: “They have horns just like Triceratops! But just the one, not three.” It is quite remarkable how quickly and confidently our Reception children make links between their learning.

After a spot of lunch, watching the giraffes, the children continued their explorations around the park seeing lots of different animals. The day ended with a quick visit to say hello to the penguins before the children hopped back onto the coach to return to school. Having been inspired by their visit the children spent the rest of the week creating their very own ‘Dear Zoo’ stories which included some very impressive illustrations. Well done Reception!
