Equestrian Squad Gallop to Success

Heywood Prep pupils have been achieving impressive success when representing the school at equestrian competitions. The equestrian squad members have been showing maturity beyond their years and producing some fantastic results, often when competing against much older children.

A Year 6 pupil recently finished in 8th place against more than 50 other riders in the National Schools Equestrian Association (NSEA) Eventers Challenge 80cms Qualifier, which took place at Rectory Farm in Gloucestershire. This pupil then went on to jump an excellent double clear in the 90cms NSEA Show Jumping Qualifier at West Wilts Equestrian Centre and was competing against mainly senior riders. She then stepped up another level to admirably tackle a tough 100cms qualifier, with a very impressive performance, again against predominantly secondary school pupils.

A Year 1 pupil qualified for the Grass Roots National Championships 2022 at Hickstead. This involved a three-day trip to The All England Jumping Course in West Sussex where she finished in 4th place in the 6 years and under 40cms National Championship, against qualified riders who had travelled from all over the country. This pupil then proceeded to qualify again for the 2023 GR National Championships at her first qualifier of the new season. She finished in 5th place in the 40cms at Rectory Farm and won the best Horsemanship Award in a strong class of over 40 riders, who came from many different year groups, and then also jumped clear in the 50cms qualifier.
