Chocolate: tracking it from bean to bar
Year Two have been continuing their exploration into the importance of food produced in our rainforests by tasting chocolate from Peru and Brazil. Following the study of the journey from bean to bar earlier this term, pupils looked at the similarities and differences between the three different types of chocolate: milk, dark and white with some blind taste testing.
Pupils also looked at the importance of supporting cacao farmers by looking out for products with the Rainforest Alliance, UTZ and Fairtrade logos. Many pupils were surprised that they liked dark chocolate and that white chocolate contains no cocoa liquor at all! Unsurprisingly, there was not a crumb of chocolate left at the end of their Topic lesson, but there were lots of happy faces!
