Fawns and Ponies

Fawns and Ponies are children of the same academic year group and at this level are encouraged to be more independent, make choices, access resources and develop simple computer skills using appropriate programs.

They are invited to recount news from home and to retell a story. They also actively participate in their 'Learning Journey' which is a work in progress for their time in the nursery. The appreciation of numbers, number rules and language skills are important. At this level, the children are usually able to write their own names.

They enjoy practical activities such as cooking and shopping for the ingredients. They often draw recognisable pictures and develop their imagination through drama.

The children acquire the level of self-sufficiency required at Heywood. They are expected to be responsible for their own belongings and to show a caring and helpful attitude towards their classmates. It is anticipated that children in Fawns and Ponies will have gained the confidence and independence at Wigwam which will enable them to make a successful and positive transition to main school.
