Activity Clubs

6 - a side football club

Six a side soccer takes place at the Springfield Centre on Thursdays for Years 2 to 6 at 4.00pm with Mr Graham. Cost is £15.00 per term, payable at the start of term. The first session is on Thursday, 15th. September. The children are supervised after school and are taken to the Springfield centre in the minibus. The actual playing session begins at 4:00pm and goes on to 5:00pm. The children can be collected from 4.45pm onwards.

Everyone is allowed to bring a drink and a snack to eat at the Centre before the session begins. They will need to wear their yellow PE tops, shorts and trainers. Any children not collected by 5.00 pm are returned to school in the minibus. Some then go to After School Club and there are parents who prefer to collect their children from the school. The choice is yours! We look forward to seeing you at the club.

Art Club

Art club is run by Miss Creighton. It is held on Thursday afternoons throughout the Autumn term from 3.30 - 4.30pm in the art room. It is open to years 1, 2 and 3 and the cost is £2 per session. A great opportunity to be creative with paint and have fun with friends. Art club does not run during the Spring and Summer Terms.

Badminton Club

The badminton club, is run by Mrs Napier and Mr Hicks on Tuesday after school in the second half of the Autumn Term. Last year it was a great success with the children from years 4, 5 and 6. going to the Springfield Centre where we had the use of the badminton courts. Badminton club does not run during th eSpring nad Summer Terms.

Some children have the opportunity to be introduced to a new game while others who have played before will be able to improve their skills. We look forward to seeing previous members of the club back after half term and will be welcoming any new comers.

Cookery Club

Mrs Merritt and an assistant run the Cookery Club after school on Thursdays. This term's Club starts on Thursday 15th September 2011, from 3.35pm to 4.30pm.We make lots of tasty food and take home what we haven't eaten already to share with our families.

Please bring with you an apron and a container to take your baking safely home!

Nature Club

Welcome to Nature Club!

We meet on a Wednesday, between 3.30 and 4.30 pm for the second half of the Spring term. At Heywood we are lucky enough to have some wonderful grounds to explore, looking at trees, plants and wildlife.

We hope to have pictures showing you some the activities we have been doing.

Miss Colbridge

Netball Club

Mrs Napier runs the netball club on Tuesday evenings for the second half of the Spring Term. Our first club meeting will be on Tuesday 21st February. Come and give it a try!

We have lots of different activities to practise our netball skills and keep fit. Then we either play mini games, High Fives or full 7 a-side netball which helps to prepare us for matches against other schools. Last year we played against The Mill School, St Margaret's and Kingswood. We always enjoy the after match teas at these events!

We have lots of fun and exercise at netball club and it helps us to prepare for our matches against other schools so we look forward to seeing you there!

Orchestra and Choir

At Heywood , a large proportion of children have individual lessons from a group of dedicated and talented peripatetic teachers. Children learn brass, woodwind and stringed instruments , as well as pianoforte and guitar. The orchestra often has specific events to play at - for example, music evenings, plays, assemblies and music festivals. Mrs Clarridge takes an orchestra/band club for Years 3 to 6 at 1.00pm on Wednesdays.

The choir (Year 3 to 6) also meets every week at 1.00pm on Tuesdays with Mrs Clarridge and prepares pieces for similar events.

We performed at the 110th Mid Somerset Festival in March 2011. We played well and had a fantastic time.

Photography Club

Photography club will run on Wednesday afternoons between 3.30 and 4.30 p.m. during the first half of the Autumn term. It is open to Year 5 and Year 6 children and the cost will be £2.00 per session. Children will have the opportunity to develop their skills in digital photography and use other ICT resources to create photography and film based projects. Photogrpahy club does not run during the Spring and Summer Terms.

Storytelling Club

Storytelling Club is open to Reception and Year One pupils and is held in the Library/Language Suite every Friday lunchtime, between 12.30 - 1.00pm. Mrs Bidgood leads this fun club. Each week, pupils share a storybook and do fun activities linked to the story.

JUDO CLUB

Judo Club takes place on Mondays after school. There are two sessions: Session 1 is for children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. Session 2 is for children in Year 3 and above.

Session 1 : 3.00 to 3.45pm
Session 2 : 3.45 to 4.30pm

If your child is interested in Judo club, please speak to Mrs Knight in the School Office.

BALLET
Ballet lessons take place on Tuesdays from 3.40to 4.10pm. Ballet is open for children aged 3 to 6 years (i.e.Wigwam, Reception, Years 1 and 2). The cost is £55.00 per term, based on a 10 lessons per term. Ballet kit may be purchased from Mrs Baxter, the Ballet teacher.

RUNNING/CROSS-COUNTRY CLUB

Mrs Napier and Mr Hicks run the running/cross-country club on Tuesdays, from 3.30 to 4.30, during the first half of the Spring term.

The club is open to runner sof all abilities in Years 4, 5 and 6. We will run different length courses in Corsham Court as often as possible. This will help the children with their training for our cross country events in the Spring term.

If the weather is too wet or cold we will be running fitness activities in the hall.
