Dear Parents
I hope you have had an enjoyable and relaxing Easter break. Here are a few pieces of information about the Summer term.
The KS2 SATs begin on Monday 14th May. Your child would already have received a letter detailing the arrangements for these tests; a copy of this letter is also available on the school website for you to download.
Once the SATs are over there will be a greater emphasis on practical work and investigations, particularly in Science. In Maths the children will have the opportunity to use their mathematical skills within a range of investigative projects. In English we will be studying parts of Shakespeare’s “Macbeth”, following on from the theatre visit earlier in the Spring term. In History this term Miss Colbridge will be covering work on changes and developments since the Second World War and in Geography Mrs Napier will be concentrating on settlements in Africa, with an emphasis on Kenya.
There is much to look forward to later in the term including our summer concert “Peter Pan”, for which there are lots of words and songs to learn! There will also be the traditional staff vs. children rounders match & water fight and, of course, the PGL trip near the end of term (more information will be sent to you soon concerning this). In the final week of term the “Leavers’ Assembly” will take place and we look forward to seeing you then.

Year 5/6 Cross Country Match at Kingswood School (17 images)
On March 16th 2012 several Year 5 and 6 children from Heywood participated in the cross country match at Kingswood School, Bath. All the children did extremely well and acheived some very good results.

Year 6 - Trip to the Lifeskills Centre (12 images)
On February 28th 2012 Year 6 visited the Lifeskills Centre, Bristol. The children had an excellent and exciting time learning about the importance of keeping safe, both in and around the home. Areas covered included road and river safety, how to deal with accidents and emergencies, and identifying dangers in a typical household kitchen.

Year 6 - Mould Investigation (3 images)
Year 6 have been investigating the conditions needed to premote mould growth. We discovered that damp conditions were best at turning bread mouldy. Light and temperature did not seem to have much of an effect.
